Giffoni Sei Casali is placed on the southern side of Picentini Mountains. With its urban conglomerations of Capitignano, Prepezzano, Upper Sieti, Lower Sieti, Malche, in panoramic position (from 72 to1564 metersabove sea level), extends on a territory that encompasses the upper and middle valley of river Picentino and, from the top of Mount Mai, reaches the plain on the banks of the aforesaid river.

The town, with 5308 inhabitants (whose name derives from their hamlet: capitignanesi, prepezzanesi, sietesi), is sited in a various and interesting environment that allows to pass from cool and salubrious mountains to the sweetness of the hilly landscape, from the fun of the seashore to the awesomeness of the Greek temples of Paestum.

The ancient hamlets of Giffoni are situated on hills grazed to the north by the extreme layers of the Picentini Massif, the most important hydrographical junction of southern Italy, to the south by the alluvial plain of river Picentino that afterward joins the more famous Plain of Sele – a large and fertile lowland created by the alluvium of river Sele and its tributaries (Tanagro and Calore) – that from the city of Salerno extends till the archaeological site of Paestum.

The urban conglomerations that constitute the commune of Giffoni Sei Casali (Capitignano, Prepezzano, Upper Sieti, Lower Sieti, Malche and Capocasale), belong to a sub district of the Picentini Mountains formed by 9 municipalities (Acerno, Castiglione del Genovesi, Giffoni Valle Piana, Giffoni Sei Casali, Montecorvino Rovella, Montecorvino Pugliano, Olevano Sul Tusciano, San Cipriano Picentino and San Mango Piemonte), that share a certain territorial and historical-cultural homogeneity.

For its particular geographical position between the sea and the mountains, Giffoni Sei Casali unfolds a hilly landscape, various and mutable as to vegetation and conformation of the ground, that at times assumes the traits of the mountain, at times those of the plain, and combines and alternates them with marine or mountainous backgrounds.
